In the spring of 2018, two siblings, Danny and Alexandra Will, read a New York Times news article about the one billion people in the world with visual impairments that could be corrected with a pair of eyeglasses. Many people around the world do not have adequate access to eye care nor can they afford to buy a pair of eyeglasses. Stories about children who cannot see the blackboard clearly at school and fall behind in their academic work are common. Other situations include adults who cannot see the pedestrians and hazards on the road and are a danger to themselves and others. Danny and Alexandra felt compelled to tackle and help solve this global health issue, and thus, Teen Vision was created. Their mission is to help all people around the world live their lives to their fullest potential through excellent visual health and education.
Teen Vision partnered with over 50 local organizations and businesses around Ambler, PA, to display their Teen Vision Charity Used Eyeglasses Collection bins. Teen Vision membership expanded to include other high school students in the surrounding areas.
What We Do
We have organized four Charity Eyeglasses Drives, collected over 5,500 pairs of gently used eyeglasses and donated them to Mattie N. Dixon Community Cupboard in Ambler, PA, Face to Face in Philadelphia, PA, Lions Clubs International, Hope for Haiti, New Eyes for the Needy, and Liberia. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Teen Vision sewed and donated 128 face masks to health care workers and the general public.
We continue to collect and donate gently used eyeglasses, and offer children from low-economic families in the Philadelphia area free comprehensive eye examinations and free prescription eyeglasses. Currently, we continue to collect and donate non-perishable food items for the people of Ukraine.
